The agora (Ancient Greek), was a central public space in ancient Greek city-states. The literal meaning of the word is “gathering place” or “assembly”. The agora was the center of the athletic, artistic, spiritual and political life of the city.
Several years ago I was looking for connections and was interested in starting a local group for Christian LGBTQ+ college age students. Many LGBTQ+ students do not have any support at their local Christian colleges. Much has transpired since then. I joined a couple of large FB groups for moms of LGBTQ+ children and became active as an ally and advocate. I liked the interaction, support and information given in the other groups, but I wanted to start a local group where we could meet face to face. – and that was when Agora was born!
We have pot lucks, attend Pride Parades, stand-in for families at LGBTQ+ weddings and generally have had a lot of fun together. There have also been times when we’ve cried, sharing both our sorrows, as well as the joys, of our children’s experiences.
If you’re a mom looking for a group like ours, we are here for you! Please contact Agora here.
